How Do I Help My Friend Stop Taking Drugs?

Question by Sarah: How do I help my friend stop taking drugs?
He’s 17, and he does all kinds of drugs. He told me that he has too much drama going on in his life, and drugs (such as speed mixed with thc) make him feel better. He says they’re the only solution for him. I asked him if he knew that what he was doing was bad, and he told me he knows it is, but that he doesn’t have the strength to quit. I know he does have enough strength, but he doesn’t believe in himself enough.

His mom kicked him out of the house, so he’s living with a couple of adults he’s known his whole life, and they really love him. The only way I could get him to open up to me was promising that I would never tell anyone. I know that I need to tell someone, but I don’t want to break my promise, because that is something that I just don’t do. I don’t want to lose his trust, but I don’t want him to O.D. and die some day.

He also said that he doesn’t want to tell adults because he feels that they won’t love or accept him anymore. I am 100% sure his guardians will not treat him any differently, except for working with him on quitting his addictions.

Please help me.

You’re in a difficult situation. If you don’t tell, you’ll lose him. Try to get him to quit, or get help. If that doesn’t help, have an adult walk in on him when he’s doing drugs.
