Well there are more than one type of drug test. Most labs or even probation offices, treatment centers use a self reading urine cup. That gives a quick answer right then. If the answer is positive, the testee is given the option of admitting to use, or denying. If the testee denies, then the test is sent into the lab for confirmation. Most tests check for Alcohol, THC (active ingredient in Marijuana), Amphetamines, Opiates, Cocaine, PCP (angel dust), Benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, etc). There are other drugs that can be tested for, and some tests break down the Opiates and Amphetamines into types.

As for how far back it shows positive, that depends on the drug. Alcohol dissipates at the rate of one ounce per hour. So that is out quickly. However, there is a new “80 hour” test that can be run on alcohol and it shows positive for 80 hours after drinking. That test is getting alot of folks caught because they are used to being able to drink at night and be clean by morning.

Marijuana stores in fat cells. This has nothing to do with the size of the testee. It has everything to do with how much and how often one smokes Marijuana. Fat people don’t have more fat cells than skinny people, they just have ‘fluffier’ fat cells. There is one difference between the sexes, girls have more fat cells than boys do –because girls were made to have babies. Sometimes girls who smoke alot of pot will stay dirty longer. So anyway, if one smokes alot of pot and smokes daily, they could conceivably stay dirty for up to 30 to 60 days or so. If someone usually doesn’t smoke pot at all but took a hit off a joint and tests a few days later, chances are they will be clean as a whistle.

As for the rest of the drugs……. You can usually count on being positive on a drug screen for about three to four days. They are almost always out of the system by then.

There are some agencies that use hair follicles for testing, and they can test back for about 3 to 4 months with hair follicles. They can use any hair, the length of the hair doesn’t matter. Mostly Child Protection uses hair follicle testing.

Good luck. Honestly the best thing to do is stay clean and learn to deal with life. <3
